A new future for an old department store

April 22, 2020

Ash Sakula is preparing a planning application for the former Beales Department Store in Peterborough, following Beales entering into administration in January and the final closure of the store in March.

The nineteenth century Westgate House wing of the store, originally the Anglia Regional Co-operative Society, will be retained and converted into a hotel, with co-working space on the ground floor. The remainder of the site will be developed as housing with a retail frontage to Westgate at the front of the site. Car parking on the site will be retained with a single level underground car park.

Ash Sakula will use innovative residential typologies to optimise residential densities and to regenerate this part of Peterborough's town centre with sustainable and attractive new homes.
