New London Awards Mayor’s Prize, Special Commendation 2016
Ash Sakula have converted St Paul’s House, a much loved, locally listed building on Deptford High Street, into eight affordable rent apartments, behind which sit a terrace of three new-build houses over new restaurant units.
The scheme, which will be delivered as part of developer U+I’s Deptford Project, reached practical completion this summer. Ash Sakula also worked on the masterplan for the larger site, which includes new housing, workshop units and commercial space as well as a new public square and market place in front of the railway station. The public square forms a connection between the existing bustling markets on Deptford High Street and the station, and reinvigorates the listed carriage ramp which used to allow horse drawn vehicles to access the railway.
