The Hangzhou Caravanserai is a visitor attraction in a remote and beautiful valley near Hangzhou, China’s number one destination for internal tourism. A number of linked caravanserais are located along a Silk Road spine, containing cafés, restaurants, shopping and hotels. The monumental courtyard buildings are set in a rural landscape of woods, hills and farmland where a range of outdoor activities are run by locals from the nearby ’slow village’. An old quarry is flooded to become a spa and swimming pool. The Silk Road connects the complex to a 1,200 space car park at the valley entrance.
